(1835-1919) Карнеги, ЭндрюСталелитейный магнат и крупный филантроп. Глава компании "Карнеги стил" [Carnegie Steel Company], ставшей со временем ядром треста "Юнайтед Стейтс стил" [ United States Steel Corp.]. В 1899 опубликовал статью "Богатство" ["Wealth"], известную как "Слово о богатстве" ["The Gospel of Wealth"], выступил идеологом филантропической деятельности. (1850-1932) Брукингс, Роберт СомерсБизнесмен, филантроп. С 1867 по 1896 занимался коммерцией в г. Сент-Луисе, стал мультимиллионером. В 1897 стал президентом корпорации Вашингтонского университета [ Washington University] и решил посвятить себя филантропии. Добился значительного улучшения качества образования и учебных программ на медицинском факультете. Был первым попечителем [trustee] Фонда Карнеги в поддержку международного мира [ Carnegie Endowment for International Peace]. В 1916, будучи председателем правления Института изучения государственного управления [Institute for Government Research], убедил Фонд Карнеги финансировать Институт экономики [Institute of Economics] и предоставил средства для создания Последипломной школы экономики и государственного управления Роберта Брукингса.
